LYALL BAY WINS.

N.Z. BOWLING FINAL. CARLTON RINK DEFEATED. GREAT EFFORT BY JENKIN'S TEAM (By Telegraph.—Special to -"Star.") WELLINGTON, Friday. Wellington enjoys the somewhat unusual distinction of having concluded the New Zealand Bowling Association's 20tK annual tournament in eleven days. This has been due to the exceptionally fine weather, and also to the remarkably good fortune in finding that the survivors from the second day's play in the singles were all free to continue on .the second day of the j pairs, a similar piece of good fortune enabling the survivors in the pairs'to'continue .with their post-section play without waiting for the rinks post-section play. Only three of the 28 rinks who qualified for post-section play survived the first six rounds, n,nd the bye went to the onelifer, Jenkin (Carlton), as both of the others had already had one. The twolifers met in the seventh round, with the following result: — Hastings, McKenzie, Brackenridge, L. M. Naylor (Lyall Bay) 34. v. Dyett, Grant, Xeilson, W. Gilbert (Ivarori) 11. The winning rink got the bye in the eighth round, now that all three had had one, and Gilbert's rink again scored only 11, while 25 were credited to G. L. Gladding. J. Pascoe, W. J. Truscott, H. Jenkin (Carlton). The final, however, was an exceedingly close contest, Naylor defeating Jenkin by '22 to IS iu a game whose issue was in doubt, until the very last bowl was played. A Classic Contest. In the first head of the final Jenkin drew two, but Naylor saved one. On the next head Naylor secured a brace. On the third head Pascoe trailed the kitty for one. Jenkin secured a second, and a possible third. Naylor flicked off one, and ran out to leave Jenkin three. On the fourth head Truscott "rested" a Lyall Bay bowl in for a possible two, and Jeiikin failed to save. In a poor fifth head Jenkin finally drew one and took the lead.

On the sixth head Truscott drew the shot, while Brackeuridge put one on the jack, and it stayed to score. The seventh head saw four bowls in the crcek. Jenkin got one. Carlton built a "school" round the jack on the eighth head, lying four or five. Naylor only took out one, and should have saved two or three-*-four to Carlton. Truscott drew the shot, and the skips did not alter the postion on the ninth head. In the tenth Brackenridge trailed the jack to the ditch for one. Pascoe and Truscott each put a shot in, and the skips did no 'better —two to Carlton. Naylor scored two on the twelfth head. Three Carlton bowls were just behind, Naylor sending tliem flying. He then drew a beauty, taking another bowl with him, to be a handful. Jenkin drove one out, but left Lyall Bay with five, making 13—13 on the thirteenth head.

The disc came out of Pascoe's bowl on the fourteenth head .on a long shot. Naylor

"rested in" for two on the next head. Braekenridge put in the shot bowl a foot behind, , and it stayed for a single. On the sixteenth there was a cluster of bowls round the jack, and Carlton had the shot. Xaylor played to pick the Carlton bowl off the shoulder, and did so. "Four up," yelled Braekenridge, but "kitty" got a bump and ran a few inches, to give Carlton two —Xaylor one ahead. When the seventeenth head started Carlton had the best of the opening shots, but Braekenridge drew the shot dead. Carlton was in the picture on the next head> all drawing perfect bowls.. Xaylor drove out two. Jenkin put one jnore in and scored three. Xaylfft "rested in" for two on the nineteenth. Jenkin took shot. Xaylor

"rested" off the wing bowl and ran in for a couple. Naylor took one on the twentieth head to lead 20 —18.

On the last head Hastings was on the jack, and Gladding six feet over. Hastings made a pair. Pascoo sent down a back bowl with his second and drew a lovely shot, right between Hastings' pair. Jenkin "rested" into the head, still holding the shot, but pushing the jack into the open Naylor trailed "kitty" through into two Lyall Bay bowls for three, jenkin drove and missed, leaving Naylor with three to win the New Zealand championship by five.

The president, Mr. H. G. Mayer, presented the shield to the victors, and congratulated them and the losers 011 the splendid game.
