BROKEN AGREEMENT?

DISPUTE AT WILTON MINE. "The agreement between the company and the men, drawn up last May, provides that, in the case of a dispute occurring, work shall be continued pending a settlement," stated Mr. Hendry Luke, managing director of the Wilton Collieries, Ltd., this morning, in connection with trouble at the Wilton mine at Glen Massey.

Mr. Luke added that the men had asked permission from the manager to hold a slopwork meeting last Monday, and the manager agreed, provided they were ready to begin work at eight o'clock. The meeting continued until nine o'clock, and the men left the mine. They had presented themselves for work the next morning, but, as they had broken their agreement, anil the company was not willing to be treated in this manner, the mine had been closed.
