GIRDLING THE WORLD.
British Radio Telephony Progress. LAST LINK READY SOON. (Received 12 noon.) LONDON, January 2. The Postmacter-General, Sir Kingslcy Wood, ill a broadcast talk, revealed that when the radio telephone link with India is completed in March it will be possible for anyone in Britain to telephone anyone throughout the Empire, and 95 per cent of telephone users throughout the world. "London has become the switchboard of the world," he said. The record long-distance call is held by an American film star, who telephoned London from Australia, and then connected with Los Angeles. When the air mail system is extended via Singap- •- to Australia, letters will reach the Commonwealth in 14 days from England.
