» ■ WAIHEKE REGATTA. BIG GATHERING AT COWES. BAY. KEEN CONTESTS IN SMALL CLASSES. The regatta promoted annually by residents of the lower end of Waihcke was held off Cowcs Bay yesterday. There was a big gathering of yachts and launches, nearly 100 boats being at anchor during the morning. Starting at noon a programene of yacht and launch events was carried out, all being keenly contested, especially in the small classes. No less than 10 boats started and finished in the V (18ft) class. Dinghy races for boys and girls, and other side shows were run off close inshore, the mid-day tide helping the success of the day. The regatta was watched by a large gathering of residents and visitors from the various bays. The Claymore brought a full complement from Auckland, which was supplemented by the crews of the sailing and motor craft, some coming from Whangarei, Thames, Coromandel, and all bavs on Waihcke and adjacent islands.
