NEW YEAR FESTIVITIES.
Among the many festivities given to welcome the New Year was a dance held at the Masonic Hall, Princes Street, when Mr. Jack- Foster, of the Grand Hotel, entertained a large number of New Zealand and overseas visitors. The hall was charmingly decorated. From the centre of the ceiling hung a canopy of lettuce green and white wide streamers, which were carried half way clown the walls, to gaily decorated panels, which gave the colour note. The platform for the orchestra was arranged with a background scene of a harbour with high palms and tropical plants in the foreground, the whole effect representing a setting of an island in the tropics.
