276 for Eight Wickets.—-Rain Again Interrupts Play.—Matheson Bowls Well. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. The weather was clear but threatening for the resumption of the- AucklandOtago Plunket Shield match. The wicket was soft after yesterday's rain, but "ave an indication of quickly improving. D. Smith (18) and Leader (16) carried on Otago's first innings against the bowling of Weir and Vivian. Leader scored a couple of singles, but Smith, when facinc Weir, snicked a catch into the hands of Whitelaw in the slips. 213—0—18. His dismissal came as a disappointment, for his timely stand yesterday undoubtedly saved the side from a drastic rout. . Dunning, who followed, got Vivian nicelv away to the off boundary, and 220 was soon hoisted. At 224 Matheson took over from Vivian. Dunning raised 230 by banging Weir hard to the leg fence, but three runs later, when only one run was needed to equal Auckland s score, he was smartly snapped up behind the stumps off Matheson. 232—7—13. Chettleburgh carried bis eide past Auckland's score by getting Matheson round to the leg boundary, and Leader raised 240 with a nice three to third man. A few' minutes later a heavy shower sent the players to the pavilion. Play was continued at 12.15 after an adjournment of 33 minutes. Chettleburgh again got Matheson round to lea for'four, and in the next over from Weir he drove a full tosser strongly to the on boundary, the ball shooting past short lep's head like a cannonball. In the meantime Leader was content to score in ones and twos. Garrard came on in place of Matheson at 258, and Chettleburgh hoisted his first ball to the square leg fence. Leader, maintaining good form, reached 30 next over by steering a ball from Weir through the slips for a four. A little later Chettleburgh failed to get properly on to a ball from Garrard, and Whitelaw, at square leg, held an awkward high catch. 268—8—26. Coupland joined Leader, br'; at 12.47 another shower brought about a premature luncheon adjournment, the score being 276 for eight.
