RISE IN PRICES.

CHRISTMAS POULTRY. YOUNG DUCKS BEING 5/. There was a big rise in poultry prices at the city marts this morning. The head of the poultry department of one big mart said that the rise was noticeable in certain lines, particularly heavy prime cockerels, which brought bids from 4/0 to 7/0, while the lighter prime breeds brought from 3/ to 4/. Heavy fat hens brought 3/ to 4/, while the lighter breeds ranged in price from 1/6 to 2/6. Young drakes and ducks sold from 3/ to 5/. The poultry man said that 5/ was a rise of 100 per cent on the peak price last week. Geese brought prices ranging from 5/ to 7/. There was no change in the price of turkeys, which yesterday brought, in the ease of the best birds, prices over £1, with inferior birds selling from 7/ upwards. The supply of poultry was medium, and the demand for fat and young birds was very keen. "But tomorrow," he eaid, "I cxpect big sales."
