ELAM SCHOOL OF ART.
The annual prize-giving ceremony at the Elaill School of Art wae held yesterday, the awards being presented by Mr. C. J. Tunks, chairman of the board of managers. In reply to inquiries to-day, the principal, Mr. A. J. C. Fisher, said that the year had been a very successful one, despite the depression. The day attendance had numbered 100 students, and there were 150 night students. The principal mentioned that two students. Mr. L. F. Fraser and Mr. Gilbert Nicholls, had gained prizes at the Auckland Society of Arts ■competitions for students. Mr. Fraser's medium was portrait painting, and Mr. Nieholl'e sketching, particularly outdoor work. An ex-student. Miss Blanche Heazlewood, had gained the Kohn medal, awarded by the Society of Arts for the most distinctive work anions students. The list of prizes is as follows:— Seniors. —Painting bend from life: Tj. F. Fraser; Miss Z. Hamilton, mention. Drawing head from life: Miss N. Browne. Figure drawing from life: L. P. Fraser; Alex. Garmonsway, mention. Outdoor drawing: Ijinwood Lipnnovic, Gilbert Nichols, Arthur Thompson (equal). Modelling head from life: Miss Z. Hiimilton. Modelling from antique: Noel Ireland. Junior modelling: Clifford Murray. Etching: Linwood Lipanovic; Brian Donovan, Arthur Thompson, Kance Browne, mention.
Junior A.—rainting from still-life: Miss P. L. Hunt, Jack Crippen (equal) ; Mavis Johnston, mention. Drawing : Nancy MacDonald; Leon Canham, Judith Glover, Marjorie Wilson, Phyllis Harwood, mention.
