WAIKATO HORSES.
TAUMARUNUI CANDIDATES. THEIR PROSPECTS DISCUSSED. For the Taumarunui meeting, which will be openeu to-morrow,, the Waikato will supply most of the horses. Lady Lulu is to be a member of R. J. Mateer's Matamata team for Taumarunui. The Yalkyrian—Glacier mare finished a good third to Gay Marigold and Glenrata in the Hack Cup at the Waikato meeting, and on that form should prove hard to beat ill whatever she is started on Saturday.
Welcome Boy is another of Mateer's team who will be at the fixture. He figures in ,the hurdles; and also in the Owhango Hack Handicap, one mile, but the stabl« also has Lady Lulu in the latter race. Welcome Boy would only have to run up to his Te Rapa efforts, where he was third and then second in hurdle company, to prove' hard to beat in the jumping events ahead. Holly Holm is an acceptor for two events at Taumarunui, but the Acre gelding will not be at the meeting. Valuation, from A. Tinker's team, will also miss the meeting. Limex has done well since the Takapuna meeting, at which she was a winner in her only start. Her only engagement to-morrow is the Matiere Hack Handicap, and she should take some beating, despite her 9.0. A. Tinker will ride her.
Princess Bede and Illuminelli, the other members of "the stable engaged at Tanniarunui, are also in good order. There is every prospect of Illuminelli staying on better this season, while her good beginning ability will be an advantage on the small track to-morrow. No rider lias been engaged for Illuminelli, but linker will pilot Princess Rede, who is well.
r)^ -f-'he Pullet, Sinking Fund and Ruby Dawn are members of F. Tutchen's stable who left Frankton to-day for Taumarumii. Sinking Fund, a three-year-old gelding by Acre—Peggy Paul, is hardly iorward enough, but the others have had recent racing and should hold reasonable prospects. Ruby Dawn has improved considerably by her Takapuna efforts. Chang is going to Taumarunui, where he will be raced in the Trial Plate "to-morrow, in which T. Green will be his rider. Chang was a little disappointing at the Waikato meeting, but tlie smaller field to-morrow will be in his favour. Phenomenon, who is in the Trial Plate tomorrow, is trained at Te Rapa by T. E. Wilson. This five-year-old mare, by Sandstar from Thurnline (the dam of Luminary) is on the small side. She is speedy, but six furlongs reads too far for her.
Arcade is to fulfil his jumping engagements at Taumarunui, and should race well. C. P. Buckenham ia also taking Sammy to the fixture. The latter is a well-built five-year-old gelding by Lack-ham—-Oetend, who eliould eventually develop ■useful form.
