NEARLY 5 CENTS UP. Sudden Rise After Uncertain Tendency. CHEERED BY WAR DEBT NEWS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, November 30. A New York dispatch states that the pound jumped nearly five cents at the opening on Wednesday for cables, to above 3 dollars 20 cents. It is continuing to show strength, reaching 3.21 within half an hour. Sterling closed at 3 dollars 10? cents, a rise of 4.} cents, cheered by the news that the British war debt Note was ready. Speculative short covering may have influenced the rise. The Canadian dollar closed 5-Sth cents higher at S4J cents.
