MOTOR IMPORTS.

SUBSTANTIAL DECLINE. COMMERCIAL VEHICLE MARKET. PREFERENCE FOR BRITAIN.

A report prepared by the Comptroller of Customs for the first nine montlie' period of this year shows that there has been a decrease of 781 in the number of motor vehiclee imported into New Zealand compared with the same period of last year. For the ' nine montlie' period of this year 2328 vehicles were imported, compared with 3109 for the same period of last year. The values were £337,774, compared with £450,150.

The greatest decrease was ehown in connection with Canadian vehicles, only 87 being brought into the Dominion compared with 032 last year and 7114 in 1030. The numbers imported from the United States fell from 549 to 19G. The imports from the United Kingdom showed an increase of 131, the total being 2173. The following table shows the number of vehicles of all types imported in the first nine months of the last three yeare: — 1930. 1931. 1932.
