REFUSE TO PAY.
IRISH ANNUITIES.
Farmers Complain of Broken Promises. PROTEST AGAINST FREE STATE (" Times " Cables.) LONDON, October 24. Many Irish farmers are refusing to pay the annuities: They complain of not getting a penny of the 12J per cent bounty on fat cattle promised by the Government. On the contrary, the money goes to the shippers, who form a ring to beat the farmers down to the lowest prices.
Mr. J. H. Thomas, Secretary of State for the Dominione, speaking - at Birmingham, referred to Ireland as "my daily and hourly source of worry."
It is reported from Dublin in connection with the visit of the Prince of Wales to Ulster in November to open the Parliament Buildings at Stormont, Belfast, that the Sinn Fein headquarters have issued a statement protesting against the vinit.
"This is the latest English act of defiance of the rights and liberties of the Irish people," it states, "and a further attempt to stabilise partition."
The statement adds , that steps are being taken to voice the national resentment.
