CITY PROPERTY DEAL.
FOR CANISTER FACTORY.
EMPLOYMENT OF 40 HANDS.
SOUTHERN FIRM'S ENTERPRISE.
An important sale of city property has just been completed through Messrs. C. P. Bennett and Company. It is a considerable time since there has been a sizeable deal in property, but the present sale is even more important from the fact thai it will mean anchor important industry established in Auckland and the immediate employment of 40 men and youths. The property is the big garage of the Todd Motors, Ltd., at the corner of Napier Street and Napier Lane, and the purchasers are Messrs. ,T. Gadsden and Co., Ltd., of Christehurch, canister makers. The building, built in 1920, covers 17,000 square feet, and it is one of the largest garages on one floor. The price of the sale has not been announced. Messrs. Gadsden and Co. have been in business in Christehurch for 14 years and in Wellington for ten years. The firm has a contract with the Vacuum Oil Company for a quantity of benzine tins, and the work will require at least the number of men and youths mentioned. The . firm makes plain and printed canisters. Some of the modern plant to be installed in the factory will be made in New Zealand and the tin ! olate used comes from Great Britain, so the industry is quite in accord with i the Ottawa tradition.
