P. AND T. WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION.
A Post and Telegraph Women's Association has been formed in Auckland. On July 26 Mrs. W. F. Kent-Johnston, president of the Hamilton organisation, addressed a meeting and said there was great ne6d for the female members of the service to get together with the mothers, wives, daughters or 6isters of the male Btaff. A further meeting was held last Thursday, when the following committee was set up: —Mesdames W. D. Bellman, R. Bailey, Mrs. C. G. Fellows, J. D. Foley, F. Goertz, F. Holt, S. Mather, Moore, H. Parnell, G. H. Scull, Misses K. Dale, Fairweather and Young. Mrs. S. Mather was unanimously elected president, and Mrs. H. Parnell secretary. The main objects of the association are said to be the encouragement of cooperation and the cultivation of the spirit of good fellowship. In addition, the organisation intends to encourage the educational side, and give assistance to the sick and n<sedy members of the service. Membership is open to all female members of the P. and T. Department, and the mother, wife, daughter or sister of any officer in the service. The organisation is described as unique, so far as the New Zealand Civil Service is concerned.
