TRADE IS BRIGHTER. FROZEN MEAT. PRICES AT SMITHFIELD. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its Londc 1 office as at the close of business thSs week: —Wethers: The market is steady. Ewes: There is a better inquiry. Lambs: There is a fair demand. The market is over-supplied, and m-iees are affected in consequence. Trade generally is. brighter, with a bettor demand. Wethers, light 3d to 4%d per lb, heavy 2%d to 3d; ewes, 2d to 2'/&d; lambs, twos M to 5%d, fours 4%d to sVsd, eights 4%d to sd, seconds 4%d to sd. PRICES FOR METALS. SUBSTANTIAL RISE IN TIN. LONDON, August 4. (Quotations on August 3 in parentheses.) Copper.—Spot, £28 6/3 ( £27 8/9); three months, £28 4/4 J /a (£27 3/9). 'Electrolytic Copper.—Spot, £31 15/

Tin.—Spot. £136 2/6 (£133 2/6); three months, £137 17/6 (£134 12/6). 'American 4.875 cents a lb, compared with 4.50 cents on August 2. CHICAGO WHEAT VALUES. (Received 11 a.m.) CHICAGO, August 5. Wheat for delivery in September is quoted at 51% cents per bushel, for delivery in December at 55V6 cents, and for May delivery, 50% cents.
