PURCHASE OF STAMPS.

NELSON RESIDENT'S COLLECTION. An interesting purchase of old postage stamps, and one which is considered to be the biggest in the history of New Zealand philately, has recently been made of the comprehensive collection of the late Mr. Henry Baigent, of Nelson. The collection, which was valued at about £8000, has been bought by Mr. A. Brodie, of Auckland. The highest priced stamp is one of the first penny stamps of New Zealand, valued at £150. Other rarities are the' bisected London printed 1/ stamp Heed as a sixpenny stamp in New Zealand, the penny pelure, 13 perforations, the rare serrated sixpenny pelure, and a fine lot of all New Zealand from 1855 to present date. The collection is also rich in Pacific Island stamps, including early Cook Island and Samoa stamps on laid paper, early British Guiana 5/, Barbadoes £5, orange, Great Britain 1/, 5.R.1., etc.
