CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS.
INSPECTOR'S BAD LUCK. TWO SMASHES IN ONE DAY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Friday. 111-luck seem 3to have attended Inspector D. M. Ford on his journey along the Taupo-Napier Road yesterday. After going over the hillside on the way to Tarawcra, injuring himself and wrecking his car, he sent for a taxi to bring him back to Rotorua. A taxi company sent out a sedan car about 9 o'clock last night, and it picked up Mr. Ford and another passenger. On the way home, about 1 o'clock, when at the Opepee Hills, the car skidded in the snow and capsized and caught on fire. Mr. Ford, in his injured condition, was extricated with difficulty, but the car was destroyed. The driver and the passenger escaped without injury. The second accident occurred at a lonely spot, but luckily a motorist passed by and gave Mr. Ford a lift into Taupo, from where instructions were sent into Rotorua for a taxi, and another car went out at 8 a.m. this morning and brought Mr. Ford back to his home, where he is now under medical treatment. His injury is not serious. The driver of the car which was burned and his passenger (Mr. Hugh Galbraith) had to walk from Opepee into Taupo, as the passing motorist who brought in Mr. Ford had room only for one passenger.
