WHITE FUNNEL UNIT.

VESSEL TO BE BROKEN UP.

The well-known steamer Rirnu, a unit of tho Northern Steam Ship Company's fleet, which hae been swinging idly at anchor in "Rotten Row" for many years past, has been sold to an Auckland firm to be broken up.

Tho Riniti, a twin-screw steamer with a length of 142 ft and a beam of 24ft, was built at Preston, England, in 1893 for the New Zealand coastal trade for a southern company. Sho traded on the. coast for a number of years, and occasionally came as far north as Manukau and Kaipara, on one occaeion bringing a coal cargo to Helensville.

The Riinu was bought by the Northern Company, lengthened, and placed in the West Coast trade. When auxiliary vessels verc placed in the trade there the Riinu was brought to Auckland.
