LOCAL BODIES.
PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD. The Papatoetoe Town Board held its, fortnightly meeting last evening. The. chairman, Mr. W. J. .Nicholson, presided. Relief Workers' Kates.—A deputation' was received from the local Relief Workers' Association asking permission to, work off outstanding rates. Mr. Nicholson replied that, as the sura in question was so large, the project was practically, impossible. Annual Meeting of Ratepayers.—-The annual meeting of ratepayers was fixed for. Wednesday, September 14. Cyclists Without Lights.—A complaint from a resident regarding the practice of cyclists riding without lights was referred to the traffic inspector for attention. Reduction in Heavy Traffic Licenses.— A circular letter was received from the Transport Department asking the board's support to a proposed reduction to farmers in the cost of heavy traffic licenses on a road usage basis. After discussion, the board decided not to support the suggestion. Extension of Polling Hours. —Following an application by the board for the extension of polling hours, notification was received that the polling hours for the Papatoetoe Town Board election on September 21 had been extended from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., to 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Current Rates.—Mr. Burton reported that on two days on which rates for the current year had fallen due, a total of £272 had been paid.
