OCEAN YACHT RACE.
WAIONE STILL OUT. LEFT LEIGH THIS MORNING. WILL TAKE SECOND PRIZE. Waione, the only one of the Ave starters in the Balokovic Cup ocean race on Friday that has not reached port, was reported last evening from Leigh (better known to yachtsmen as Littie Omana Cove), ten miles north of Kawau. She arrived there at 5 p.m. after sailing from Whangarei on Sunday morning and rounding Cuvier Island late the same night. The wind was south-west and the skipper decided to stand towards the mainland, fetching straight through to Leigh. Waione left Leigh shortly before ten o'clock this morning on her way home. The wind at that time was light southeast. The yacht has evidently gone inside Kawau by the north passage, and if the wind freshens, which it has done since 12.30 p.m. from the south-east, she should cross the finishing line about 4.30 p.m. When Waione has completed the course she will be entitled to the second prize of £5.
