HOSPITAL AUXILIARY.
The council of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary met on Tuesday, when Mrs. E. A. Kidd presided. Two representative members were appointed to the executive. Mrs. Neill, from the Onehunga branch, and Mrs. Upton, from the Mount Eden branch. This completes the executive for the ensuing year, the members being Mrs. Kidd, president, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, treasurer, Mesdames C. E. Maguire, E. Davis, C. Drysdale, CarrSmith, P. Balgarnie, Major Gordon and Miss A. Basten. Mrs. Neill reported that tho usual activities had been carried on by the Onehunga branch. The infirmary had been visited, and comforts had been distributed to the patients. A special effort had been made to replenish the libraries at both the men's and women's shelters. Mount. Eden branch reported that a very successful entertainment had been given in aid, of the funds by Madame Valeska. Both Mount Eden and Onehunga branches are busy at present preparing for Christmas treats and cheer for the 6ick and needy of the districts. The city sewing circle had a good attendance during the month, and three new members have been enrolled.. The convener, Mrs. Carr-Smitli gave an interesting demonstration of her work at the Waiuku Women's institute. Three hundred and fifty-four garments were, made and sent to the depot by, the sewing circle. The purchasing and distributing committee had sent parcels to three women's institutes, and parcels of madeup garments had been received from three institutes. Parcels of cut-out garments were sent to the depot for outside workers, and the necessary purchasing had been done for the depot. Mrs. Balgarnie reported that the ways and means committee had, taken a shop in Newmarket for three days this month. They had received gifts for, this sale and had sold goods of all descriptions. Their effort had. been very successful. Parcels of clothing had been received at the depot from Oratia, Te Atatu, Glen Eden, and New Lynn Women's Institutes. Also donations of 138 garments, jam, magazines, and flowers,.were very much appreciated. Hospital wards have been visited regularly, and patients in need of assistance have been sought out. and helped in every possible way. This month 41 families have been' supplied with clothing from the depot, 12 families have been friven orders for food, and; the transport committee have taken 41 patients to their homes. In concluding the business of the meeting, Mrs. Kidd made an appeal to the members for books for the library of tlie W&iiiku Hospital. She said that when visiting the hospital it was found that tlie need for fresh literature was very great and that any assistance would be gratefully, received.
