UNLICENSED BUSES.
TWO OWNERS PROSECUTED. WELLINGTON-FETONE RUN. RAILWAY DEPARTMENT ACTION, (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Two of the taxi owners who recently inaugurated the Wellington-Petone run in competition with the - railway buses were charged before Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., at Petone with owning unlicensed omnibuses. They were Cyril Victor Smith and George Rennie. The prosecutions are made under the Petone borough by-laws at the instigation of the Railway Department. Counsel for defendants said the precise pointe in the ease were involved in the Napier case recently heard on appeal before the Chief Justice, whose judgment was not yet delivered. He asked for an adjournment. If the decision of the Chief Justice was not given by the time of the next hearing of the case he would ask for a further adjournment. Mr. Macaesey, for the Railway Department, said he would oppose any more than one adjournment. Taxis which did not run to timetable were taking away a lot of passengers from buses in rush hours. An adjournment was granted to July 7.
