SCOTTISH GENEROSITY.
NEW ZEALAND EARTHQUAKE FUND. GIFT FROM FREEMASONS. Another donation-of £150 for the relief of earthquake sufferers has been received from the provincial grand lodges of Freemasons in Scotland by Mr. John Hume, the district grand secretary of the Scottish Constitution for the North Island. The sum of 52 guineas was previously received from the Grand Lodge of Scotland, so that the total now is £202 12/. . This donation, like the former, has been paid to Mr. J. S. Brigham, town clerk, to augment the sum still in hand for the central earthquake sufferers' relief fund. The practical sympathy shown by Freemasons in Scotland is the more meritorious in view of the heavy claims on their benevolence by reason of the prevailing distress in Britain. Theirs is a general donation to the relief fund, and not merely for brother Masons.
