STILL NEGOTIATING.
TRAM, WORKERS' WAGES. UNION MEETINGS HELD. The question of the wages of employees of the Auckland Transport Board is still the subject of friendly negotiations between the board and representatives of the Tramways and Omnibus Employees' Union. Two meetings of members of the union were held yesterday, one in the morning and one in the evening, to discuss the negotiations so far as they have gone, but the nature of the discussions was not made public. The board recently decided to apply a TO per cent reduction in wages and salaries, to take effect from the first pay day after July 1, but to exempt the first £2 a week in each case. This is equivalent to a "cut" of 6£ per cent. The men argue that they are working under a long-term agreement, the conditions of . which should not be varied during its currency except by mutual "The union and the Transport Board a!re still discussing the position on a friendly basis, and until such time as we have finalised the discussions, there will be nothing for publication," said the secretary of the union, Mr. J. Liddell, this morning. "A meeting of representatives of the various organisations worKinw under agreements with the Transport Board has been called for Monday next, when the proposed reduction in wastes will be generally discussed. _In addition to representatives of my union, delegates' representing the coachworkers, engineers' and officers' unions have been invited to attend."..
