SECONDARY SCHOOL NEEDS.

QUESTION OF FURTHER "CUT." "It is desirable that there should be someone on the committee who understands the needs of secondary schools," said Professor A. P. W. Thomas, chairman of the Auckland Grammar School Board at a meeting of that body yesterday, when further economies were being discussed. The resolutions passed at a meeting of the Auckland members of the Federation of Teachers were under consideration, and the consensus of opinion was that a tendency existed to make economies, at the expense of the secondary schools. A letter was received from the Otago High School urging adequate representation of secondary schools if further economy measures are to be taken. A letter embodying this suggestion is to ! be sent to the Prime Minister. It was also resolved to support the measure that any committee set up to consider further curtailment in education- should contain a majority representation of experienced educationists.
