SHEEP AND LAMB DEARER

CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday

Entries in all the major sections at the Addington stock sale to-day were smaller than for some time. The market was noteworthy for an advance in the values for fat sheep. There was a very keen sale for fat lambs with a strong export dedemand.

Store Sheep.—A small entry, with last week's prices maintained. Extra good sound-mouthed halfbred ewes realised up to 13/2; others, 8/ to 9/5; ordinary four and six-tooth halfbred ewes, to 10/9; extra good four and six-tooth halfbred wethers, to 14/3; good two-tooth wethers, to 12/4; crossbred ewe lambs, to 10/7; good wether lambs (shorn), to 9/. Fat Lambs.—An entry of 2100 head. Values were again firmer. Export buyers operated keenly throughout for all classes, and Cd per lb was paid for best lambs. Extra prime lambs realised up to 22/7; prime, 18/6 to 20/6; medium, 16/6 to 18/3: light, 13/6 to 16/3.

Fat Sheep.—The entry was 4800 head. The general quality was very good, and there was a sharp advance in wether values, amounting to 1/6 a head. Ewes also improved up to 1/ a head for all classes. Extra prime wethers made up to 20/10; prime, 16/ to 18/6; medium, 14/ to 15/9; light, 10/7 to 13/6; extra prime ewes, to 16/10; prime, 13/ to 14/6; medium, 10/9 to 12/6; light, 9/ to 10/6.

Fat Cattle. —A fairly steady eale with no alteration in values. Palmerston North steers averaged £12 7/6, and Gisborne cows and heifers £8 2/6. The best beef made from 29/ to 32/ per 1001b; heavy steer beef, 28/ to 30/; good prime beef, 24/ to 27/6; ordinary, to 23/; best heifer beef, to 30/; good cow beef, to 23/; ordinary, 15/ to 18/. Extra prime heavy steers realised up to £15 7/6; prime, £11 to £13 10/; medium weight, £8 10/ to £10 10/; ordinary, £7 to £8 5/; light, to £6 10/; extra prime heifers, to £10 7/6; prime, £6 15/ to £8 15/; medium, £4 10/ to £6 10/; light, to £4; extra prime cows, to £10 17/6; prime, £6 to £8 10/; medium, £4 to £6. Fat Pigs.—Choppers made 50/ to £5 13/6; baconers, 47/6 to 55/; heavy baconers, to £3 2/6 (average price per lb 4d to sd); porkers, 30/ to 35/; heavy porkers, 37/6 to 45/6 (average price per lb, 5d to 6%d).

PRICES AT FRANKTON. STORE SHEEP BETTER. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having held their usual weekly stock sale ou Tuesday, June 2, as under:— Fat Sheep.—A fairly large yarding, which met with fair competition at last week's rates. Extra prime heavy wethers sold at up to 15/; prime fat wethers, at 13/ to 13/11; inferior quality wethers, 10/6 to 11/3; prime heavy fat ewes sold at up to 10/10; ordinary fat ewes, 8/ to 9/3; inferior forward ewes, 6/ to 7/3; prune woolly fat lambs, 11/ to 15/; light ditto, 9/6 to 10/9. Store Sheep.—There was a good yarding, and prices generally were better than last week. We yarded nearly 2000 store sheep, and nearly all changed hands at the following rates:—2oo two-tooth ewes (empty), at 7/6; 189 two-tooth empty ewes, at 7/6; 126 ditto, at 7/3; 315 two and four-tooth wethers, at 8/; 279 small two-tooth wethers, at 6/9; 42 twotooth empty ewes, at 5/6. White-faced store lambs sold from 6/ to 7/3; blackfaced cross lambs, 6/6. A line of woolly ewe lambs were passed at 8/9. Fat Cattle.—A very small yarding, and prices for fat cows and heifers took a sharp rise on late values. Bullocks were slightly better than last week. Prime ox sold at up to 23/ per 1001b. Young cows and heifers sold at equal to £4 17/; boner cows at late rates. Only a few store cattle yarded. Dairy cattle were yarded in good numbers. Prices were on a par with late rates. Pigs.—An average yarding of all classes of pigs. Prices were slightly easier than last week for fat pigs, while store pigs were in keen demand, and prices were very firm. We quote:—Prime heavy baconers, £3 10/; heavy baconers, £3 3/; light baconers, £2 10/ to £3 Heavy porkers sold at up to £2 8/; medium, £1 15/ to £2; light, 28/ to £1 14/. Large stores made up to 25/; medium stores, 17/ to 19/; small stores, 15/ to 16/. Weaners, up to 12/. • Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company report as follows:—Cattle: light heifers sold at up to £3 10/; fat cows, £5 5/ to £6; forward conditioned cows, t*Z to £2 12/6; boner cows. 27/ to 35/; bulls £4 Dairy cows, £6 to £7 5/; in-calf heifers, £5 to £6. Sheep: Medium fat wethers, to 13/; light, 11/7 to 11/10; medium fat ewes. 6/ to 8/11; light fat lambs, 8/6 to 9/6; five-year-old breeding ewes. 3/ to 6/3. Pigs: Heavy baconers, £3 5/ to £3 9/; medium, £2 18/ to £3 2/; light, £2 10/ to £2 15/; heavy porkers, £2 to £2 6/; light, 28/ to 35/; stores, 18/ to 24/; weaners, 9/ to 13/; sows, in pig, £3 10/ to £4; sows with litter, £4 10/.
