"PARTS OF THE BODY."
TO-DAY'S NOVEL COMPETITION.
The following is a list of 20 rhymes, each of which describes some part of the human body. Very clearly the answer to the first definition is "soul." Answers to the rhyme puzzles must be written in lists opposite to the number of the rhyme, and in any place where a satisfactory solution cannot be found a distinct dash must be placed beside the number, thus:— 1. Soul. 2. —
A joke must accompany each entry, and this will be considered as the deciding factor when ties are inevitable. Prizes of 7/6, 5/, 3/ and 2/6 will be offered for the best entries received by Wednesday next. I—The nobler part of you and me, It dwells deep on tlie restless sea. 2—AS vacillating as the breeze. Yet firmly fixed as rooted trees. 3—The sacred precincts and the shrine Where mortals worship the divine. 4 —The marshy river meadows, yi<?ld The flower that blazons France'* shield. s—lt must be driven, it can't be led; To get it *W>me you must bang its head. 6 —We use this language to express The dreary howling wilderness. 7 —They inspire, along with the banzo The' darkie's light fantastic toe. . S —These figure largely in the lists Of all Dutch horticulturists. o—Of old within it oft was stored The bride's trousseau, the u.iser's hoard. 10-Along the shores of tropic seas They bend beneath the balmy breeze. 11—"The lowing kine wind o'er the lea" And with them these trot merrily. 12-See ! On the river's gleaming breast The racing boats with this contest. 13-rTwelve times the moon has hidden his face While once the earth has rolled through space. 14_The teacher from his place of pride Beholds them seated side by side. 15-Through forest glades, he leaps apace While after him sweeps all the chase. 16-It grows on desert cactus' skin, On hedgehog and on sea urchin. 17-Timid and shy, fleet as the wind. March, so 'tis said, affects her mind. 18-Where ocean's tide sweeps to and fro The rocks their clinging myriads show. 19-Three times the shout the heavens rend As joyous crowds cheer foe and friend. °0-Tlie centre of all that grows and lives For each of us one letter gives.
