RESULT OF DEMONSTRATION.

THREATS OF INTIMIDATION,

WESTPORT, Tuesday.

As a sequel to the demonstration against the co-operative workers at the Charming Creek mine on May 26, James Mcßride and John Russell, president and secretary respectively of the WestportStockton Miners' Union, and William Clark and Robert McGregor, president and secretary respectively of the Millerton Miners' Union, appeared before Mr. W. Meldrum, S.M., in the Police Court to-day on charges of intimidation. Inspector Fitzpatrick conducted the prosecution and Mr. W. Joyce, of Greymouth, appeared for defendants.

Alter a lengthy hearing, during the course of which it was stated that about 200 miners took part in the demonstration and that threats were made to drag the co-operative miners out of the mine if they attempted to continue work, the magistrate convicted all four defendants.

M divide and Russell were each fined £•"> or 14 days' imprisonment, and Clark and McGregor were each fined £2 or seven days' imprisonment.

Clarence Victor Olsen, Henry Baden Watkins, Hubert Turiibull and David Auld were charged with behaving in a disorderly manner at Ngakawau on the same day. They were each convicted, Auld being fined £2 and costs, and the other defendants each £1 and costs.
