VEHICULAR FERRIES.
SERVICE FROM BIRKENHEAD,
SUGGESTED ALTERATION"
A suggestion that the time-table for the Birkenhead vehicular service should he extended was discussed by a deputation comprising representatives of the Auckland Automobile Association, the Birkenhead Borough Council, and the Birkeuhead Ratepayers' Association, which waited on the chairman of directors of the Devonport Ferry Company, the Hon. E. W. Alison, yesterday afternoon.
Mr. A. Grayson, president of the Auckland Automobile Association, said that motorists who travelled from the Xorth complained that there was no vehicular boat from Birkenhead during the winter months later than 4.4.3 p.m. Tliis necessitated vehicles making a long journey to Devonport in order to cross to the'eitv.
Tallies taken during the summer months were quoted by Mr. Alisoa to show the paucity of the patronage accorded the evening service from Birkenhead and Northcote. He felt fhat the expenditure suggested was not warranted on the service.
The touring manager of the A.A.A., Mr. R. E. Champtaloup, undertook to erect a notice board on the Glenlleld highway directing motorists' attention to the time the last ferry left Birksnmead in order to prevent them from makingan unnecessary journey. It was also agreed that the A.A.A. should confer with the Northcote and Birkenhead Borough Councils in an endeavour to arrive at a summer time-table acceptable to all parties.
