VOTE-SPLITTING.

MR. COATES RESPONSIBLE.

REJECTION OF FUSION OFFER.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

CHRISTCHURCH, this day. "With the three-party system of government there is bound to be a good deal of vote-splitting at the general election this year," declared the Prime Minister to-day.

"The Leader of the Eerorm party will have to take the blame for this, as the Government, by making its fusion proposals, did all it could to prevent such an occurrence. Sir. Coates had the matter in his own hands, and in refusing to accept the Government's proposals for a National Government he has provided for .vote-splitting."
