IMPORTANT DEPARTURE.
PROPOSALS FOR KIOREROA.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAXGAUEI, this day. •This is the most important report ever presented to the Whangarei Harbour Board/' said a member at yesterday's meeting. The repo"t referred to concerned business transacted by the chairman and secretary during a "recent visit to Wellington. I: was marked "confidential." As the result of interviews with Departmental chiefs, it is likely that a conference will take place between the Whangarei Harbour Board. Wilsons Cement Company and representatives of the Marine and Railway Departments. The reconstruction and extern-ion of the wharf at Portland are contemplated by the Cement Company. Provided suitable arrangements can be made, the Harbour Board is desirous of the Portland trade beiiiir concentrated at Kioreroa. This would involve railing the cement from Portland to the new wharf. Yesterday the chairman and ilecsrs. L. A. Johnson and P. R. Gardner were. appointed to represent the Harbour Board at the conference which "'ill be held in Auckland.
