UNEMPLOYED WOMEN.
In reference to the unemployed young women in. this city, a large number of them could be employed if the persons responsible in a great number of shops, offices and factories were compelled to dismiss all married women whose husbands are in employment. To make this possible I would suggest that the names of any person or firm employing married women whose husbands are working be handed to an association interested and the names be made .public. Naturally the person or firm so named in public would not relish the idea, as it would be detrimental to their prestige, or perhaps the. Government could make all such firms pay the unemployment levy for each woman employed, as ako the women themselves. I think that if this was done there would be quite a number of women now seeking positions who would find employment. One very glaring instance I will quote: Father is drawing over £400 per year, mother £3 5/ weekly, one girl £1 8/ week, one girl £1 per week, and one boy » °l per week; total, £14 15/ weekly. Do you not think this mother could give her place to some other unemployed woman? I know of qui' B a number of other cases and am prepared to give particulars to a responsible party. INTERESTED MALE.
