TAKANINI TRACKS

HAVERING'S PROGRAMME

NOT TO RUN m CORNWALL HORSES FOE TE AWAMUTU. JUVENILES DOING WELL. Tho following horses leave ralcanini to-day to fulfil engagement* at the To Kuiti meeting: Havering. \ aiulvke, Howiek, Ruffles and Singleton. J. Grav informeu the writer that Havering will lie an absentee from tlie acceptances lor the Cornwall Handicap field. Havering will run to-morrow at Te Awamutu in the mile and a quarter race, but will not be seen out at Elierslic until tlie, two concluding days. Singleton still has speed on the flat, which"he demonstrated during the week, when he extended Chief Joy over six

furlongs. Singleton is in better fettle than when he ran in the hurdle race at Pukekohe, and he has only to jump as on former occasions to be very troublesome in the Kopaki Hurdles. Singleton will be ridden by P. Mcllroy. Vandyke's task in the Stewards' Handicap will be a fairly hard one, especially taking into consideration that he is still a hack. Vandyke showed up well when he beat all but Chief .Joy in the Paerata Handicap, and his eii'ort in this company was so promising that lie must command a good deal of respect in this event. If the .going is soft Vandvke's chance will be very bright.

Ho wick will bo having her first race since taking up lier quarters here, and has bee.ll. gailoping well enough to indicate that she should acquit herself well in the Te Kunii Hack Handicap. li. Homej who is attached to E. Pope's stable, will ride Rekaraurau at Te Awamutu to-morrow. Coolmint's Engagements.

Coolniint is to contest tlie Members' Handicap at Ellerslie instead of tlie Great Xortliern Hurdles. Coolmint lias shown on the tracks that he is a very free goer, and has a liking for soft tracks. His condition at present all that could be desired, and he promises to strip a very fit horse at Ellerslie next month. By next month it is expected that most of this year's two-year-olds will te recommissioned to the active brigade in preparation for the new season's engagements. Among this numbei aic Amnion Ka, Bronze Eagle, High Comedy, Speedmint, lloval Artist, and others, so that tlie track v. :k. which is at present a little uninteresting, will brighten up.

Tea Chat is moving over slow pace work, but liis condition suggests that he will be one of the first of the new season's winners from this centre. King March is getting through the tasks allotted him in a satisfactory manner. Although not completely fiee from his pastern trouble, he is much improved, and should soon be 011 the sceno again. Catcliem has resumed work aftei a short let-up. King Willonyx is 011 tile tracks again, hut when working during the week appeared troubled by his , oid knee injury. This has often affected his.-pre-paration, though he has raced fairly well throughout the year. Even though he never reached the best class, King Willonyx was a useful stake earner. for his owner-trainer, C. Morse. Holly Lu is the name registered for the Lucullus —Holimond colt in F. Smith's team, while Husky is the name of the half-brother to Fedora by qu'enodj an inmate of the Jamieson stable. j C. Morse is giving the Chief Ruler— Archeress gelding plenty of work, but 1 it appears that he ' will • take a little while yet to round into shape. He is n tliree-year-old, and has a half-sistci by Tollbridge in tjje same stable, who is at present spelling. Full Measure's yearling sister has been seen on the and is a shapely filly. She is not very big, but compares very favourably with othei fillies of the same age in the district. The Valkyrian—Malaria filly has come through her education in the 1 ight manner, and will most likely be seen joining the active brigade 011 the tracks jiext month. She has a full sistei in work a<; Ellerslie by the name of • Valaria, -who is reported to possess. plenty of speed. I Lady Vane is not being asked to do |

a great deal, but is in good order for tliis time of tlie year. Bronze Eagle's Tasks. Bronze Eagle is being indulged in a : little trotting preparatory to being ; taken in band next moutli for a serious i preparation. ... i Higli Comedy, Royal Artist, and Speedmint Lave not been on the tracks, i but when seen by the writer were m ' good order after a respite. They aie j wintering well, and apparently lia\e not ] slipped back, so that next month should < find them again taken in < hand foi preparation. _ . A most improved looking colt is the Hunting Song—St. Helen youngster '• Bugle Call. His easy season has helped < him to furnish into-a well-grown sort that should sport Mr. W. Scholium's colours with credit in the new season. No fault can he found with the con- i dition of Envoy and Principal, but ] they have not raced up to expectations, j particularly Envoy, who won at the i Avondale, spring meeting and has since ; then only one minor placing to his i credit. One of the biggest yearlings in work is the Whirlwind—Hukapapa colt, a half-brother to that good handicap horse iSnrgon. This youngster has grown rapidly, but it is not the intention of his connections to hurry his preparation. Next season will find Whirlwind represented for the first time, and the appearance of this youngster suggests that his sire will be well advertised. Trustee is bowling along with his ciiHlwnary freedom, and has only to repeat his recent effort, at I'ukekohe to fcooii secure a stake. The Sandstar —Jolly Princess fillv is being pottered about during the winter months, but will then commence work of a more strenuous nature. She is a compact filly and looks as good as any t,f the SaiuiUar strain yet to be seen, i'ateeno, a f ,j ll sister to King is a regular worker. This filly t info ftavur been seriously tried, but may B be ijitijf the fh'iit to sport silk when B tin w fummt vjMum,
