MISHAP WITH PISTOL.
FORMER RAILWAY OFFICIAL SEVERE WOUND IN ABDOMEN PECULIAR CIRCUMSTANCES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Mr. Herbert Chapman, ex-district traffic manager of railways, is in Lewisham Hospital suffering from a severe wound in the abdomen as the result of an accident while unloading a pistol at his home in Cashmere Hills. Though the injury is of a painful nature, he is recovering slowly. Curious circumstances surround the mishap. Recently the police rang up Mr. Chapman and fixed an appointment to inspect the pistol and its license. It was while Mr. Chapman was preparing the weapon, which is a curio, that the mishap occurred.
