Mr. Selwyn Clark said that the man who was going to marry her, had left Auckland some time ago, when he found that there was a warrant out against him in connection with a "sly-grog" case. "You heard what the police had to say about her last week," said Mr. E. K. Hunt, S.M. "Her record is a very had one and I cannot overlook it. I think if the man saw it he would not marry her." Logan was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. HER FIRST APPEARANCE. "This woman has been under observation for some months and she has been associating with some of the worst characters in the city, also frequenting hotels and drinking," said DetectiveSergeant Kelly, about Ethel Briggs, aged 49. Briggs, for whom Mr. K. Aekins appeared, pleaded guilty to a charge of being an idle and disorderly person who habitually consorted with undesirables.
