"TOO MANY FLOURMILLS."
MR. HOLLAND ON WHEAT QUESTION. Dealing with the question of the wheat duties, Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P., speaking at the Town Hall last night, said that while it was true that some ease had been . made, out for a reduction, it might be quite possible to make a reduction, and then, by leaving Distributors, Limited, a free hand, get no reduction at alf in the price of bread. If the Government dealt with Distributors, Limited, the price of flour could be reduced by £'2. a ton. Theie weie many sellers of wheat, but theie was only one seller of flour, Distributors, Limited. One trouble with - the industry was that there were over 40 flourmills .in the Dominion,-whereas the whole millin"- for the Dominion could be done bv six mills. To show how things were run he might mention some information lie had received from Gore. On a certain Saturday the bakers had reduced the price of the four-pound loaf. On the following Monday the bakers were notified that if they did not at once restore the old price they would either have their flour supplies cut off, or they would have to pay 30/ a ton more for it.
