BIRKENHEAD FERRIES.
VEHICULAR SERVICE.
DEMAND FOR EXTENSION.
On behalf of the Birkenhead Business Association the secretary, Mr. A. G. Jasper, has written to the Devonport Steam Ferry Company endorsing tha remarks of the president of the Auckland Automobile Association, published on May 14, referring to the urgent need of an extension of the time-table of the Birkenhead vehicular service, as the wharf at Birkenhead is the terminus of the No. 1 main highway north.
"It ie regrettable at times," Mr. Jasper states, "to notice motorists arriving at Birkenhead from different parts of North Auckland district, forced to go out of their way a further nine miles to Devonport to enable them to reach the city that evening, owing to the vehicular boat from Birkenhead having ceased running at the early hour of 4.45 p.m. We feel sure that ample vehicular traffic would be available for an extended service if the time-table was reasonably stable and given sufficient publicity. We trust that the company will give this matter favourable consideration."
A copy of this letter was sent to the Auckland Automobile Association.
