MANURE FOR FARMERS.
DISCUSSION AT MORRINSVILLE. {.hi Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE, Tuesday. "It is to the credit of the farmers in this district that our company has not lost a penny through advances," said Mr. ,T. E. Leeson, chairman of directors of the Morrinsvillc Co-operative Dairy Company, when referring to credit facilities for farmers at a meeting of the Morrinsville branch of the Farmers' Union. "We have got through the season very well. Suppliers have paid up their liabilities very well. The returns recently published by the Railway Department show that about the same quantity of manure has been coming to stations in the province as last year." Commenting on the Government's scheme of dairy companies backing promissory notes from suppliers to enable funds to be obtained from the Rural Intermediate Credit Board, Mr. Leeson said his company preferred to borrow the money from the bank and make advances to suppliers. It did not wish to bother about promisory notes. Companies should get all the money they wanted to enable their suppliers to buy fertiliser from the banks. Mr. S. A. Ferguson, chairman of the Norfolk Dairy Company, agreed with this, saying that if a farmer had sufficient security to get his company to back his promisory note he could also get the company to make an advance to him. The system of advances was only suitable to farmers who could already get finance from their companies.
