SCHOOL FURNITURE.
RAILWAY WORKSHOPS' PRICES. "CONSIDERABLY HIGHER." "If these figures were published, it would help to put an end to this Government interference with business," commented Mr. F. A. Snell, at this morning's meeting of the Auckland Education Board, when a return was furnished showing the prices at which the Otahuhu railway workshops could supply school equipment, such as desks, blackboards, easels and chairs, compared with the cost of the furniture to the board under contract. The board decided not to discuss the prices in open board, in fairness to the present contractor. After a brief discussion in committee the chairman, Mr. A. Burns, reported that the board had received from the manager of the Otahuhu railway workshops prices at which he could supply • furniture, and they were considerably higher than the amount paid by the board to the .present contractor. It was decided to send the comparative prices to Wellington for the information of the Education Department.
