TO HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS,— Dear Sirs, In reply to your inquiry re statements being made that the expenditure on roads and footpaths last vear was £14,000, I have to state'the Balance-sheet for the year ended 31/3/31 shows that the sum o-t £9060 13/8 was spent from general a/c on roads and footpaths. Against this the Council received Government subsidies of £654 1/3, from the Ex-Servicemen's Club £80, from the Returned Soldiers' Association £40, and from hire of plant, etc., £41S 16/4. Under No. 5 Scheme the sum of £4353 8/6 was expended on various works, which amount was refunded by the Unemployment Board before March 31, 1931. The actual cost to the ratepayers on roads and footpaths -was thus only £7867 16/1. The debit balance at 31/3/31 was about £800, and the outstanding cash assets were approximately £ 11,127. Liabilities were approximately £2400. I vouch for the correctness of the above figures. H. A. YOCKNEY, Town Clerk. 2 • SPOKTINQ. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. WINTER MEETING, 1931.
