FAMILY PROTECTION.
AUCKLAND SOCIETY'S WORK.
INCREASED LAST .YEAR.
The activities of the New Zealand Society for the Protection of Women and Children considerably increased last year, according to the report presented to the thirty-seventh annual meeting. The president, Mr. A. J. Stratford, J.P., presided at the meeting. During the/past year 4395 office interviews were given, as against 3572 in 1929. The inspector paid 1577 visits, as against 626, made 142 attendances at the Supreme, Magistrate's, and Children's Courts, as against 93. During the year 576 new cases were dealt with, the 1929 figure being 436. Matrimonial; problems involved 251 of these cases, and 92 concerned children. The maintenance accounts had increased to £4676. The Rev. P. S. Smallfield gave an address on social conditions and problems in England 'and•'overseas. " '■' ' ■, ' The election of officers resulted ns follows: President, Mr. A. J. Stratford, J.P.; vice-presidents,.last year's dfficers;wer> reelected, ' with the addition of Mrs. F. Turner, Miss Wilding, FatherColjan, the. Rev. R. Stowards, and Mr. W. Wallace; committee, last year's members and- Mrs.: Stowards and Miss Bentham. Last years officers for the other positions were also re-elected, Mrs. Pollock being added.
