MOUNT BOSKELL DISTRICT.
BELIEF OF UNEMPLOYED.
Reference to the success of the work carried but in the board's "district as the result of the No. 5 unemployment scheme, was made by Mr. E. F. Jones, retiring chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Boards speaking at the annual meeting' of ratepayers last evening. "In the past year an absolute transformation has been effected, in Monnti Roskill," he said. The , board, he added, had set an example to the rest of Auckland bo far as the. providing of relief was concerned. A total of 7000 men had been employed since February, and £13,000 had been paid in wages at practically no cost to the ratepayers. The engineer reported that the year had been characterised by a progressive scheme of permanent work, as well as ordinary work. The Main Highways Board had approved a proposal to divert a balance of £2000 saved on the Three Kings road construction to pave, in concrete, Mount Albert Road from Sandringbam Road to Vincent Road, alongside the tramway extension. A subsidy of £1000 had been granted for that purpose. The sewerage reticulation of the western, area was rapidly nearing completion.. The financial statement submitted by : the clerk, Mr. J. Y. Warren, showed that, after allowing for a sum of £1479. due to the board by the Government, the year had ended with a credit balance of £183 in the general account. ,
