DESERTED HIS SHIP.
FIREMAN SEXT TO GAOL. COMPANY PUT TO EXPENSE. After deserting his ship, the Tamaroa, at Auckland on April 21, Alfred Fairbrass, a fireman, aged 31, was arrested last evening by Detective Sergeant McHugh. This morning he appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, SAL, in the Police Court charged with deserting. He pleaded guilty. An official of the Shaw, Saviil and Albion Company said the Tamaroa was now in Wellington, and probably accused's place had been filled. The"company was put to a deal of trouble by deserters, and expenses totalling £2 10/ had been run up through accused's desertion. He had only a few shillings owing to him. Fairbrasa was sent to gaol for 14 days.
