A REDUCED PARLIAMENT.
Now that Parliamentary election time is working around would it not be wise to revise our methods of election to obtain the return of members more satisfactory to the whole of New Zealand? I would suggest the present methods of election be utilised, but members elected thereby to be regarded as nominated only for a national vote, their names to be well advertised and submitted to the electors of New Zealand to select twenty of their number ,to represent the people of the Dominion proportionately on a population basis between the North and South Islands.: Then we could safely look forward to the end of party politics, and when the whole of the electors in New Zealand have a voice in choosing the individual members of Parliament there will be the advantage of eliminating members who are distasteful to the majority of New Zealand electors. Pay well those elected that the best brains may offer their services. Any extra costs which may be incurred in conducting an election on these lines would be recompensed in the reduced number of members and more economical government.
NATIONAL VOTE,
