CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDING.

EASTER TOURNAMENTS.

Last week-end saw the club matches of all the senior clubs in their concluding "stages. The Remuera men's singles championships were carried through the semi-final and final stages, and the clu champion for the season ie A. C. Stedman. Stedman defeated J. C, Charters in the semi-final and then went on o beat E. L. Bartleet in a strenuous fiveset match in the final. , Though Stedman disposed of Charters in straight sets in his half of the draw, Bartleet had some difficulty in defeatin<* N. G. Sturt in his semi-final match, which went the full length of five sets. Sturt, after losing the first set, captured the second (in which Bartleet nau. a set point) ruid also the third. leet won the fourth set, but was behind at 4—3 in Sturt's favour in the faltn. Bartleet's service and driving were good enough to give him the deciding games in the fifth set. In the final between Bartleet and St'ed'man spectators were treated to a thrilling display of firstclass tennis, which went to five sets, Bartleet winning the first and. fourth. The default of Bartleet in the fifth set, owing to an attack of cramp, left Stedman the winner. The men's doubles championship, the final of which is still to be played, lies between A. C. Stedman and N. G. Sturt and E. L. Bartleet and H. L. Robson.

Eden and Epsom Matches. The Eden and Epsom men's singles championship now lies between M. M. Morrison, the present holder, and V. A. Hubble, who reached the semi-final by defeating P. E. Potter on Saturday in a match which went to 74 games, lasting over three hours. Potter had several match points, but Hubble's luck held at the critical stages. The score was 7 ■S. B—lo, B—lo, B—6, 7 —5. Hubble will play Morrison on Saturday next. The men's doubles final is between Morrison and Rowlands and Potter and McKeown. Morrison and Rowlands defeated Wilson and Wilson on Saturday by three sets to one—the latter pair had been responsible for eliminating the Johns brothers. In the ladies' singles final Mrs. Dykes meets Miss Knight. Mrs. Dykes has beaten both Miss Newton and Miss EarnSay in straight sets. Miss Knight defeated Mis Pat Miller in her semi-final. In the final, though Mrs. Dykes is generally expected to win, an excellent display of ladies' singles should be seen. In the ladies' doubles Misses Ramsay and Miller (who beat Misses Knight and Whitelaw in the semi-final) meet Mrs. Dykes and Miss Newton in the final. The combined doubles championship will see Morrison and Miss Ramsay meet the winner of A. C. Johns and Mi s ® Miller and V. R. Johns and Miss Knight. Next Saturday, being the last playing Saturday before Easter, will virtually mark the close of the eeaeon bo far as

club tennis is concerned. Easter tournaments will attract a number of players for a final flutter before hanging up their racquets for the winter.

Easter Tournaments. Local players are reminded of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's hard court championship to be held at the Nicholson Park and Mount Eden courts during Easter. A number of A grade players have announced their intention of playing, and the tournament, the first it is hoped of a. long annual series of similar tournaments, should be assured of success. For those players who prefer their Easter tennis out of Auckland, there are the Whangarei, Hamilton and Te Aroha tournaments, any one of which will provide holiday tennis of a high enough standard to attract the best players.

EASTER TOURNEY AT MOUNT EDEN.

A hard court championship tennis tourney, authorised by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, will be held on the Mount Eden and Nicholson Park courts during the Easter vacation, the exact dates being April 4, 6 and 7. The tourney is attracting several star Auckland players. Entries close with the secretary, Mr. L. Swan/ on March 31,

PAPATOETOE TROPHY COMPETITIONS.

The following handicap competitions have been decided by the Papatoetoe Tennis Club. De Pas Cup (men's handicap singles).'— Final: French beat Silvester, 6 —2, 6 —5. Smith Cup (ladies' handicap singles).— Final: P. Weston beat D. Weston, 6—4, g '' ' * Miss P. Weston's Trophy (ladies' handicap singles).—Final: M. Seel beat E. Snelling, a —6, 6—2, 7—5. President's Trophy (ladies' handicap singles).—Final: i D. Waters beat J. Knight, 5—6, 6 —2, 6 —o.

DEVONPORT COMPETITIONS.

Following are the final results of competitions controlled by the Devonport Lawn Tennis Club: — _ ■ Men's . Championship / Doubles. —Semifinals: Armstrong and Storry beat Burd and Myers, 6 —2, G—s ; Macky and Macky beat Ormsby and McLeo.d, 6—4, 6 —3. Final: Macky and Macky beat Armstrong and Storry, 13 —11, 4—6, B—6. Championship B Singles.—Semi-final: Munn beat Pope, 6—5, 3—6, 6-—4 ; Myers beat Beechey, 6—3, 6—4. Final: Myers beat Munn, 6—B, 6- —4, 6—2. Ladies' Junior Championship Singles.— Final: Mrs. Burd beat Miss Nevill, 7—5, 6 2 Championship Doubles. —Final: Miss M. Mason and Mrs. Hogan beat Misses Daincs and Taylor, 4—6, 7—5, 6—3.

PIAKO ASSOCIATION.

Mr P H. Saxton presided at a meeting of the association. It was decided that a tournament be held at Te Aroha on April 9 and 10, play to commence at 9 am. Messrs. C. Murphy, D. Malcolm, A. T Luxton and A. Wratt were appointed a' management and handicapping comm'The' Waitoa A team have ■. accepted a challenge from the B team to play a match at Waitoa on Saturday.

MSHWORTH SHIELD.

At the conclusion of draw play in the Rishworth Shield tennis competition the teams that scored points are as follow :—Mairtown A and Portland A. 16, Mangapai A, 14; Mairtown B and Hikuranci. 12; Manse, 10; Maungatapere,. Portland B and Onerahi, 4; Mangapai B, 0. The play-off between Portland A and Mairtown A has been arranged for next Saturday.
