GREAT DISTRESS.
UNEMPLOYED EX-SOLDIERS. CANTEEN FUNDS WANTED. ACCUMULATION OF INTEREST. The following letter Is being sent to the Minister of Labour, the Hon. S. G. Smith, by the Southern Cross League: — "The executive of the Southern Cross League interviewed the unemployed exsoldiers while waiting at the Labour Bureau yesterday morning and the following resolution was passed: 'That this meeting in two shifts of between 00 and 70 unemployed ex-soldiers at the Labour Bureau to-day, in great distress, urgently demands that the canteen and R.I.F. Board shall release the whole of the accumulated interest of the fund invested by the board for the immediate alleviation of the distress among unemployed fit and disabled soldiers; and that should this amount be insufficient to meet present demands to use any portion of the principal - sum that can be made available. A sum of not less than £20,000 would be necessary for present demands.'" The resolution was moved and seconded by returned soldiers. ; -
