FISH AT MERCURY BAY.
Re the "glut" of fish at Mercury Bay through the Christmas holidays, reported to your paper by an Auckland "angler," I would like this angler to know what a "glut" means, it surely must have been an optical illusion of. afew schnapper by someone with a mind full of fish. The Thames Fisheries' depot here was opened to receive any quantity of sehnapper and tarakihi right through the Chrietmas holidays, and the staff prepared at a moment's notice for tho transportation to the head works at Thames. The "supposed" half-ton of fish left on the wharf to "rot," ae reported by tho "Auckland Angler" Jβ probably a few bundles of fish caught by a local fisherman after a hard day's slogging. He left them on the wharf steps while he went hunting for the hand cart to deliver them to the local sheds. This very "fortunate" angler happened to spy his poor little catcli lying all alone, and thinking heavily what a great place Mercury Bay is for fish, at the same time naturally thought this lot was the surplus of a big catch the sheds would not take and dumped on our wharf, a convenient dumping place. WIDE AWAKE.
