English Championship Unlikely To be Played. OBJECTIONS TO CLOTH. LONDON, January 12. It i≤ unlikely that the English billiards championship will be played owing to the objection by Lindrum. Davis. Newman and McConachy to the council's stipulation that woollen instead of napless cloth shall be used. Smith has been playing on woollen cloth the whole season, but the others say the sudden change would be unfair to them. PROFESSIONAL BILLIARDS. PROGRESS OF MATCHES. Scores in the professional billiards matches are as follow.— , Against Davis Newman has scored 20,436 (breaks of 202, 253, 653 and r>7o uniinished); Davis has scored 17,964 ( breaks of 6SI and 424}. Against Lindrum McConachy has scored 14.298; Lindrum has made 13.5G2 (breaks of 312, 800 and 893). At snooker the scores are: McConachy 753, Lindrum 653.
