HISTORIC LANDMARK MUTILATED TO MAKE WAY FOR POWER LlNES.—These two pictures tell a sad story. In order to make way for power lines this famous old kahikatea tree on the old bed of the Waipa River, which marks the place of a noted battle in the 'sixties, has been ruthlessly hacked about. The Waitomo Power Board engineer has since expressed regret.
