RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
DARGAVILLE BRANCH LINE
PROGRESS OF WORKS,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.* DARGAVILLE, this day. Public Works employees are resuming work this morning after the Christmas vacation on the Dargaville branch railway line. During the vacation work proceeded on the steel superstructure of the Tangowahine Bridge, the largest bridge on the section, which will be almost ready on the laying of . the sleepers. The completion of this bridge will enable the linking up of nearly three miles of construction, on • which the sleepers and rails have been already laid to the Onnuwhao property. Between Brenstrum's and the Awakino stations half a mile of rails have been laid and ballasted from Awakino station across to the Awakino Brid<re to the Dargaville-Whangarei main highway. The earthwork has been completed and the cattle stops erected to a point within one mile and a half of the Dargaville station. Between Onnuwhao and Brenstrum's there are a couple of miles only of an unsleepered gap, and between the Tangowahine and Awakino stations there are 5* miles of line to be completed.
